Designer Retreat 2018

This month I had the amazing opportunity to fly to San Francisco for the Zephyr Designer Retreat.
The Zephyr team was so welcoming and they made this such a great experience from beginning to end. We had the chance to see the Zephyr Showroom and learn all about the newest product, the launch of their new beverage coolers, the Presrv series

Proper Hotel Lobby

We had the opportunity to stay at the Proper Hotel designed by legendary interior designer, Kelly Wearstler,  in the tenderloin district of San Francisco. It was nothing short of amazing!
It is truly a designer's dream hotel. The attention to every last detail was so inspiring and I can't wait to go back.
The Zephyr team were incredible hosts and made this such an inspiring and fun retreat. We had the opportunity to visit the Fireclay store while we were there, encouraging us to create our own Fireclay tile designs with a workshop they hosted.
We spent the day traveling around the city, visiting different locations and shops. There is so much inspiration in this city!

The Fall Art and Antiques show was one of my most favorite stops on our city tour. It was full of fine art and antiques, centuries old. It gave me such an appreciation for how much love and effort was put in to the craft of creating furniture that would last generations. If only this art was still as prevalent in our society today.
Our second day of the retreat we visited the Joseph Phelps winery in Napa Valley. It was my first time in Napa and it didn't disappoint. I also had no idea how little I actually knew about wine until we had the opportunity to do a wine tasting and were taught all the right ways to drink wine. Who knew the glass can actually change the taste of the wine?! Not me, but I do know.

A private dinner was held in the cutest little spot by the Golden Gate bridge with the most amazing food. We were so spoiled on this retreat! I didn't even get to show you everything that we got to do but let me tell you it was all absolutely fantastic!
I was so impressed with the Zephyr company. The attention to detail that they show in every product, from their line of kitchen hoods to the new line of beverage coolers, was shown to each one of us on this designer retreat. They truly made us feel special from start to finish. I'm excited to know them and the opportunity to use the Zephyr products, not only in my own home but also in my clients homes.

Until next time San Francisco!

When the Kitchen Sink is Everything

Wednesday, October 17, 2018

*This post is in partnership with Elkay, but all opinions are our own

If you've been following along on Instagram, you've seen photos of our most recent renovation. It's no secret that the kitchen is a show-stopper, and this gorgeous Fireclay Equal Double Bowl Farmhouse Sink from Elkay is front and center.

I designed the kitchen with a modern twist on farmhouse, incorporating sleek design with classic beauty. With its timeless look and long-lasting durability, the Fireclay Equal Double Bowl Farmhouse Sink was the perfect bridge between both worlds.

The Fireclay Equal Double Bowl Farmhouse Sink is as functional as it is beautiful. It's molded from natural fireclay and baked at high temperatures for an extremely durable finish. The smooth surface and glossy sheen make it a breeze to clean and the included cutting board accessory fits perfectly, which gives the Fireclay Equal Double Bowl Farmhouse Sink a dual purpose. Win win!

Thanks to our fabulous friends at Elkay for providing the beautiful finishing touch to a timeless kitchen!

What We're Loving: Black Marble

Happy Friday! Between crushing on black houses last week and loving black marble this week, it's safe to say we've fully crossed to the dark side. What I love about using black marble instead of the traditional white is that it makes a huge statement regardless of how much or little is used. Black marble on a kitchen island is stunning, but if you aren't in the market for a full large-scale refresh, you can easily embrace the trend through smaller, budget-friendly accessories. Have a wonderful weekend!

Powder Room Partnership with Ferguson

Thursday, October 11, 2018
Today I'm excited to give you a sneak peak at a powder room design we've been working on with our friends at Ferguson. When we started the design process, I was inspired by the idea of a sleek console sink and earthy cement tiles as pictured in the inspiration photo below.

Ferguson made the shopping process a breeze. We were able to see their beautiful products in person at their showroom, which helped us narrow down our choices. The showroom consultants were incredibly knowledgable, and before we knew it we had everything we needed to put together a gorgeous powder room.

Here's a sneak peak and source list for all the Ferguson products we plan to install. Stay tuned for the powder room reveal!

White Paint + White Oak = Perfection

Tuesday, October 9, 2018

If you didn't already know, we just finished our latest remodel home and I have to say the kitchen is my favorite part. What was once a very dark and drab space in the home, is now fresh and bright. The first thing we decided when approaching the new design, was that the wall that separated the living space and the kitchen needed to go. I'm not always for open floor plans but this time is was necessary to achieve the overall design we wanted. We painted the rest of the walls my favorite Sherwin Williams extra white, added custom cabinets with white oak built ins and island. Quartz countertops and custom range hood. And of course open shelving.
I'm so happy with the outcome!
The funny thing is, I had originally wanted to paint these cabinets a dark greenish charcoal color but I hesitated because I was afraid the room would end up too dark. With so many mature trees on the property the house felt a little dark with all the original wood moldings and dated paint colors.  I was afraid that it could feel that way again with dark cabinets.
I love a white kitchen but I think it can also feel cold and sterile if you're not careful.
It's so important to add in warmth with wood tones and organic materials.
I  absolutely love how they added depth to this kitchen with black accent walls behind the open shelving.

House of Jade Interiors never fails to give us all amazing designs and here is one of my favorites.

Jason and Laura O'Dell's home as featured in Sunset
Happy Friday! We're launching a new weekly blog series highlighting what the House Seven team is currently loving. These gorgeous black homes have totally inspired me as we prepare to start a major overhaul on our home's exterior. Our home needs a fresh coat of paint, and these houses have me wanting to go to the dark side. Have a wonderful weekend!

Influencer Panel with California Closets

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of participating in an influencer panel hosted by California Closets. The other panelists and I answered questions about our experiences with social media, and it was so fun.

In addition to meeting awesome audience members, I loved having the chance to chat with the other panelists, including Mina Starsiak from the HGTV show Good Bones and Tyler Clark from Festool North American. Jean Golding from Sapphire Strategy moderated the panel.

Social media has served as a platform for my personal brand, and I'm grateful for the chance to share what I've learned over the years. All thanks to my amazing readers and followers like you!

I'm incredibly excited to partner with California Closets on a huge project: our office redesign! If you've followed me on social media, you know the House Seven design+build team has grown the last few months and we desperately need a new space to work.

California Closets will be transforming our home basement into a stunning new office space. The design experience has been amazing and I can't wait to see our vision come to life. Check out the proposed designs below to get an idea of what we'll be doing with the space.
Storage is a huge need for us, and we can't wait to fill these beautiful drawers.

Coffee station, anyone? We're planning to add open shelving above the coffee station for added storage

Chic work spaces for the House Seven Design team

It's going to be amazing, guys. Be sure to follow along on Instagram to watch the design process unfold!
